I’m a landscape designer and educator based in the UK, and I’ve spent the last fifteen years trying to make spaces that are as mindful and genuinely alive as possible.
After reading Environmental Science at King’s College London and a career at Reuters, I retrained as a garden designer and have never looked back.
My design work at Studio Ikram takes on gardens and landscapes of all scales, always with the same starting point: what do the clients and space want, and how can we get the gardens and landscapes there? I work with the grain of a site — its soil, its aspect, its relationship to the architecture and landscape around it — and I bring an obsessive interest in plants to everything I do.
I run the Garden Design Diploma at West Dean College, KLC School of Design, one of the UK’s most respected programmes — and have spent years thinking about how to teach design that is creative, technically rigorous, relevant and grounded in the realities of making things grow.
I was a regular contributor to BBC Radio 4’s Gardeners’ Question Time, a Guest Judge on Netflix’s The Big Flower Fight and continue to serve as a Gardens Advisor to RHS Hyde Hall. I sit on various selection and advisory panels for the RHS and have been involved in a number of very successful show garden collaborations over the years, including a Gold Medal at Chelsea this year with designer Patrick Clarke and The Children’s Society.
In January 2026, I was featured in an article in the RHS Garden Magazine ‘Rebels with a Cause’, a piece about the designers and growers who are quietly changing the way the industry thinks about what is important in gardens and landscapes. It feels like a sea change is happening.
I was a finalist in the Garden Media Guild Awards 2025 for Brand Partnership in social media for ‘How to Design Your Garden’ campaign with Matthew Childs for B&Q and won the Garden Media Guild’s Alan Titchmarsh Award for New Talent in 2020.
Alongside Studio Ikram, I’m currently building Understory Academy, Field Notes and the Head Gardener Syndicate — three ventures that grew out of the same question I keep coming back to: how do we make the garden world better, more inclusive, more ecologically serious and more joyful?
